What about lamps in my tanning bed?

All Perfect Sun tanning beds arrive at your door with the lamps already installed and ready to go. Your tanning bed lists the appropriate lamps directly on the unit and in the user manual.

Is a tanning bed easy to maintain?

Maintenance is very easy. After each use, simply wipe your bed down with the provided specially designed cleansers, so it is ready for your next tanning session. Replace lamps when recommended for the best possible tan. All Perfect Sun tanning beds exceed ETL standards and are backed by the best warranties in the tanning industry.

What do I need once my tanning bed arrives?

How long does it take to get a tan?

While everyone's skin is different, experts agree you should obtain your maximum tan in about 4-5 weeks of tanning three times per week. Some people with darker skin types may see significant tanning quicker, while lighter skin types may not tan at all. If you do not tan in the sun you will not tan with the use of a tanning bed.

Will I get a better tan with a larger tanning bed?

Yes and no. Larger beds typically have more lamps spaced closer together, giving you a more even tan. However, the output of a tanning bed is governed by the FDA, meaning you can only get so much UV exposure in a session. That's why larger beds have shorter session times. So while you may get a better, more even tan, and faster from a larger bed, the smaller beds will definitely do the job.

How often can I tan?

When first starting to tan, when you have the least color, you should tan no more than every other day (i.e. allow at least 48 hours between sessions). After developing a base tan you can tan every day if desired, but once or twice a week is sufficient, and recommended.

Why do I have to wear eye protection?

Eye protection is extremely important when tanning. Your eyes can become damaged very quickly from UV exposure and your eyelids offer little protection.

How often do I need to replace my lamps?

Lamps vary greatly in how long they last, depending on brand, lamp wattage, voltage to the tanning bed, temperature of the room, etc. But a good rule of thumb is:
- 100W lamps should be replaced every 700 - 1000 hours,
- face tanner lamps should be replaced every 500 - 700 hours.

What lamps can I use in my tanning bed?

Your tanning bed lists the appropriate lamps in its safety wording applied directly to the unit. This information is also listed in the user manual. Sometimes alternate lamps are listed. These lamps are the only ones tested in the unit and guaranteed to give you the maximum tan allowed by the FDA. When ordering replacements, consult with a qualified Perfect Sun Sales or Service representative to obtain the proper lamps.

Why do I need a Buck-Booster?

Voltage coming out of the wall varies greatly depending on where you are in relationship to the power station, where you are in the country, and what other things around you use power. A Buck-Booster helps regulate that power and supply the tanning bed with the proper voltage to operate safely and effectively. Perfect Sun 120V home tanning beds (16E, 16B, 16D and 24P) will not need a Buck-Booster. Only the 220V home tanning beds may need one to operate efficiently.
